President’s Message - Dr. George Giuliani
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the National Association of Parents with Children in Special Education (NAPCSE) website. As President of NAPCSE, I invite you to become a member of our national association dedicated to parents with children who receive special education services, both in and outside of school. As a University Professor, Certified School Psychologist, and Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychologist, I know that your involvement in NAPCSE will be a rewarding experience. Today, more than ever, an active NAPCSE is essential to the well being of parents who work so hard to afford their children with special needs the most appropriate education possible.
The concept of NAPCSE was first initiated when Dr. Roger Pierangelo (Vice President of NAPCSE) and I were looking for national organization dedicated solely to parents who had children in special education. As full-time university graduate professors in special education departments, we wanted our students to be able to inform the parents with whom they work of an association with the most current events, legislation, commentaries, etc. affecting their children with special needs. To our amazement, we found no organization dedicated solely to parents with children in special education. After discussing it with many colleagues in the field, Dr. Pierangelo and I felt that the establishment of National Association of Parents with Children in Special Education (NAPCSE) needed to be commenced. The feedback we received on developing NAPCSE was overwhelmingly positive, and it set the ball in motion for great things to come.
NAPCSE is ever mindful that parents with children in special education do not always receive the support they deserve for the important and difficult challenges that they face on a daily basis. As parents prepare their children in special education for the future, they do so with the understanding that there will be changes taking place, and they must grow with these changes. NAPCSE is growing and developing its ability to provide a service to its parent membership. There is a wealth of knowledge in the members of the association. Everyone has something he or she can contribute to the good our community. Education is a powerful tool, and one that can make all the difference in how NAPCSE grows and prospers in the future. I encourage members to not only seek education for themselves, but to share your knowledge with others here at NAPCSE.
I would like to officially welcome all new members to NAPCSE. It is your energy, enthusiasm, leadership, integrity, and exemplary dedication to your children that makes my position so rewarding. NAPCSE needs a variety of voices to make it strong. This is your organization; please help make it the best it can be. I am convinced we have a great future ahead of us. I welcome any suggestions on how NAPCSE can better serve you. I am honored to serve as President of NAPCSE and prepared to dedicate my time and energy to fulfill our destiny.
